Manatee County deputies are asking health workers to be on the lookout for a home invader with bite wounds.
good doggie.......hope the idiot gets an infection trying to aviod detection. the worst type of robbery i can think of is entering an occupied home....glad this one ended well for the victims and their great dog!
True! Home invasions are the worst and, IMHO, they deserve a life sentence as they not only steal property but also one's security in their own home. I feel the same way about all crimes that occurs in a victim's home.
Often, the invasions turnout much worse as in the story I just seeded: http://husker88fan.newsvine.com/_news/2009/07/11/3017807-florida-couple-who-had-16-children-12-adopted-slain-in-apparent-home-invasion .
In addition, many times pets are slain in the process and this pulls at my heart strings and angers me even more.
I agree with you but our government has allow the people to come into this country illegally who is doing this.
I do not think a life sentence I think they should be put to death period.
illegal immigration has nothing do do with this seed. on topic pls.
Hope our dog is like this if it ever happens, But once they see him they may just run away, as he is part lab and pit and he's the size of a big lab, and weights about 70 lbs and is all muscle like a pit. He has never really tried to bite anyone yet besides playing around, but he did growl at a plumber when he came to work on the plumbing so I had to put him up, that makes me feel like if someone was to break in and he felt I was in danger he would go after them, Lord help them if anyone ever does and he does, I pray it don't but you never know with all the crazies that are out there now a days.
Years ago I had my apartment broken into and an gun stolen, at-least I wasn't home at the time, the police never caught who ever done it, It brings terror to your home and a lot sleepless nights, it took awhile to get over. But you never stop thinking of it.
That dog deserves a big fat steak!
I like dogs. I especially like this dog.
My dogs would let Manson into the house..............
I have always found myself trying to protect my dogs in situations that may be harmful .. even as they try as they might to get to the source of danger. Today, my protection is even more pronounced as my eldest (Nascar) will be 15 in January. He is part chow/Brittany spaniel and weighs about 65 pounds. Quite stout in his younger days. Today though, hip dysplacia has wore him down (he was diagnosed with it at 6 months old). We recently added a puppy (Gizmo) who was born in March and is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He's going to be quite the alert dog. A couple of weeks ago I fell in the living room. When I did I fell backwards (something we haven't quite figured out LOL) and knocked myself out. When I came to Nascar was sitting at my side and Gizmo was in his den (crate) barking persistently and continued until I spoke to him. Everything turned out OK except for a couple of fractured ribs and a bruised back but one thing I will always remember is my two little guys being there.
PS .. maddog: I am new here and got to thinking a bit ago that I hoped my posting of my seed link wasn't viewed as self-promotion. I would never intentionally violate any rules. At the time that I was reading your article, all I thought about was the seed I just posted where the home invasion had a much more evil turnout. I'm glad you posted the lighter side in my comments as we all need a break from the ugliness of the world today. Although, any home invasion is .. IMHO .. reason for life in prison.
great comment. posting the link is only a violation in my opinion if the person who posted the seed your doing it on has a problem, i don't mind as long as you ask and if on topic, especially if you have a seed that a link to my seed would also fit. relating to stories that enhance one another is good for the reader. IMO...no problem i stepped on toes for awhile when i was figuring it out. hell i still do, everytime i think i have figured it out, there's something else.
Dogs, mans best friend.
Are all of you over looking the fact that this poor innocent thief was viciously attacked by one of those horrible pit bulls? I sure hope he sues them for having such an animal protecting their home. <insert sarcasm here>
Dog of the year candidate !! Good Boy !!!
Good dogger. My feller is my best pard, my alarm system and the protector of my daughter. Head drooler, barker, digger, shedder, 145 lb lap sitter, sofa hogger and general Lounger. He is a fine and affable Great Pyrenees though messing with my daughter is absolutely taboo. I've had Pyrs for many a year and when they get into The Fierce Mode they are something to behold. Luckily they are smart enough to know when it is appropriate and are affable and personable though somewhat imperious.
I live far out in the boonies so home invasion is not a big concern. Woodrow's bark can be heard across a tri county zone so I get the feeling that miscreants more than likely would skip my hovel.
I do believe Dawgs are the very best alarm and home security system available. Out here I realize the county boys are going to take awhile to arrive if something goes down. Long after the dust settles. No closet hiding for that length of time. However, Big Dawg allows for plenty of time to lock and load.
No worries here.
Woodrow agrees and sez "Woof" to all............
Thanks maddog for your reply regarding my cross posting. I appreciate your kindness!
K9Paul .. I have to admit that for a minute you had me going off LOL
Tex-988483 .. I've seen where many of the home invasions do happen in the country (as in the one I posted above). I grew up on a farm in Iowa so I sure understand your sense of security and find it extremely sad that it's no longer like that. My greatest fear with my dogs are that some criminals would not think twice about killing them. I've always said that if they killed my dogs they will absolutely need to kill me too as I'd be a basket case!

Because I feel relatively comfortable does not mean that I am complacent. There have been home invasions out here in the county of late, 2 on the county road out to mine, and I imagine as the jobs get slimmer the chances are good they will continue. I've read Truman Capote as well and have no Pollyanna view of humanity in general. On the other hand, I have a fine canine podna, am heeled and more or less live by a Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst philosophy. Consequently, I am comfortable in knowing that for a recidivist this would assuredly be the wrong ranch to invade.
I know what you mean and actually worry more about Woodrow than myself. It would be a heartbreaker and a cause for serious retribution were someone to hurt him. It seems that LEO is quite fond of no knocking and capping dawgs as well and there is probably a better chance of them hurting my dog than a criminal. Botched SWAT raids are a curse upon the land. It seems they have difficulty in assessing correct addresses.
At any rate, I keep a close eye on Woodrow all the time. He is with me 24/7 and as fiercely as he might protect me I might be even fiercer in my protection of him.
Best to you and yer canine buds......
hands the canine hero a 12 oz rib eye steak, cooked medium of course and cooled, smiles
Such a good dog! I love these stories, they really show the loyalty and protectiveness that dogs have for the pack/family.
Our lab is not exception to that rule. He alerts to people at the door, patrols the house at night when we are asleep and on and on. I feel very safe with my "Shadow" and can not imagine him not being in our family.
Great story maddad.
Had a Yorkie once and decided I needed a protector for him, so I bought a Shar-Pei pup. When the pup (Humphrey) was small the Yorkie (Bubba) used to knock the hell out of him and established himself as the pack leader. Of course the Shar-Pei grew, even large for one at about 80 lbs, but he thought that Bubba was GOD and he followed him everywhere. It was like a cartoon with this big doofus dog taking orders from this yippy little thing. The reason we needed a guard dog was of attacks by coyotes (we lived n the north edge of a wildlife preserve in AZ and had lost one Yorkie, Rosie, to coyotes). Well, sure enough when Humphrey was about a year and a half old a coyote came over the wall in our yard and scooped Bubba up. Humphrey happened to be In the house at the time, but he went by me at a dead run making a sound that I have never before or since heard any dog make. It was not a bark or a growl, it was like a lions roar of pure rage. The hair stood up on the back of my neck and for the only time in my life I was truly scared of a dog. The coyote dropped Bubba and headed for the fence, but Humphrey got to him just as he was going over the wall and laid a long slice of his belly open.
Humphrey immediately turned to Bubba who was much more shaken then hurt. He had tiny puncture marks on his belly and back from the coyotes fangs and we took him to the vet to get them cleaned out. Once the threat was gone Humphrey turned right back into the big bag of feathers and loive he always had been, but I can still hear that roar. Humphrey got a steak for dinner that he, of course, shared with Bubba because Bubba was his alpha dog.
A wonderfully told happening, our pets show us a simple view of love and devotion with out limits.smiles .
Lol my pets need help, grinns my cat attacks people opening my door, coming or going, drives my toy poodle nuts, he runs in circles yelping and doesn't know who to save or kill.
Good Dog!
Now, did the dog have a permit for those fangs? We're the fangs unnecessarily big? Did it brandish them before using them? Did it retreat before using them? Would bad breath and barking have been adequate? Dogs have it good when it comes to doing the right thing...I'm jealous of that!
