Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Sen. Bill Nelson and U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney on Tuesday made separate proposals to recruit volunteers to hunt the Burmese pythons infesting Everglades National Park. And the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is working on a plan to recruit experienced snake handlers to stalk them on state lands and kill them with machetes.

It's about darn time!!. My son wants to volunteer lol.

There are a lot of idiots out there still will get them as pets and when they can't deal with it anymore release it to nature. They are destroying Florida's natural habitat.

We are Fl resident but residing in MD currently. Sunday we went hiking, my son ( have no idea how he sees it) but found a copper head, and was trying to take pictures of it with his cell phone at close range.. Almost gave me a heart attack. I took a picture by zooming in from a distance. It was a baby (with bite that that doesn't control the amount of venom it injects), and looks like a puzzle among the foliage.

And yesterday he caught a huge racer. He is 12 and thinks invincible.

Those snake handlers better be experienced with pythons. A twenty foot python can take out a 250lb tiger. and that is not very old for a python. Depending on age and food source, some could be rather big, back in the everglades.

All you say is very true

Image of the carcass of a six-foot American alligator protruding from the mid-section of a 13-foot Burmese python in Everglades is still on my mind, and do not want to see another or hear another child killed by one of those.

Large pythons are very dangerious animals and should be treated with appropriate respect.

I think for safeties sake shotguns should be allowed at least as a backup to other methods. If a snake gets ahold of someone its going to have to be dealt with quickly and surely or the person may well be so injured that they die.

Also, the meat, if possible, should be harvested and used to feed the homeless. It seems a waste to harvest the animals and then just use the skins.

Jeffrey, just Google "python meat" and be prepared for a smorgasbord of recipes.

I've had western diamondback a number of times. Pan fried, roasted, in something like a stew. It is quite good! And to me anyway, it really does taste a little like chicken!
