A young woman living in Valencia has put her virginity up for auction to pay for care for her mother who is suffering from Alzheimer's.

I understand the great love that makes people bankrupt themselves spending tens of thousands of dollars on medical care to extend elderly people's lives a year or so...

But where does it stop? Spending every last dime on the most advanced treatments and medications available? Putting your life on hold, during your prime, working overtime, to pay for it?

I respect that it is individual choice, but people must know that they should not feel guilt if they choose not to suspend their life, and instead choose simple hospice care for their parents who are already so sick, letting them die in peace.

I know when I grow old I will make it very clear to my children, while I still have my faculties, that I want to die with dignity and without selfishness.

Life is for the living.
