What a week! I quit counting some time ago. A man accused of sexually assaulting a 4 year old girl multiple times with a screwdriver. Violent sex offenders breaking into homes at night and attempting to assault 14 year old girls. Everyone with an opinion on where these bastards should be allowed or not allowed to live after released from prison. A famous feminist stating that the rape of a 13 year old girl wasn't "rape, rape", whatever the hell that means. And the list could go on ad nausea.
What adults do to adults is bad enough, but children? I actually read a comment on a story this week that said these people were born this way and we needed to find a way to accept them the same way we accept other "alternative" sexual orientations. Are you friggin' kidding me? I do not particularly care why they do what they do. What matters is what are we as a society prepared to do about it? I do not give a damn that it has been going on since the Roman Empire and even longer. What can we stomach in order to protect and save the generations to come from the physical, emotional and mental torment that lingers for the rest of their lives?
The Supreme Court says we cannot put them to death. The lawmakers seem to think they should at least get the possibility of release someday in most states, and despite tough registration laws, we don't know where most of these offenders are. The ones that are being watched are gathering sympathy due to the restrictions placed on them.
The only good news so far this week is that John Couey, the pos that raped and buried 9 year old Jessica Lunford alive died this morning. But there are plenty others sucking air and lots of kids playing video games, doing homework or watching TV right now that will not make it out of middle school before they are molested, raped and possibly killed by these monsters.
So what is the answer? I feel lost today. Awareness has reached saturation, answers are as debated as health care and abortion. There has to be an end, or at least a slowing of this blight on our society. Rant over, I will listen now.
