Gov. Charlie Crist presented the award to Diddley's daughter, Evelyn Kelly, and grandson, Garry Mitchell, in ceremonies honoring Floridians during Florida Heritage Month.
The induction of Diddley, an adopted son of Florida who lived for 30 years near Archer and left a major influence on popular music when he died there in 2008 at age 79, was overwhelming for the 11 family members and former managers who were there, Kelly and Mitchell said.
"It was breathtaking," said Kelly. "I just thanked God for it, that I was the one that could receive it for him. The public saw him due and paid homage to him, so I was just overwhelmed [with] the governor and everyone being there."
