You make a valid point about social origins and customs. In a recent article about the "worlds youngest grandmother" it pointed out that a Romanian woman married at 12, bore a daughter at 13, and 11 years later her daughter bore a son. Therefore she became a grandmother at 23 years of age. In some Islamic countries young girls are 'married off' by their parents at equally young ages in order to establish connections between families and fortunes. Also in some tribal cultures in Africa and South America young girls are considered eligible for marriage with the on-set of menses. Even in this country it has only been in the last 150 or so years that our society has made any kind of significant effort to declare an 'age of consent' and write laws to protect children from sexual exploitation.

Also as CynicL1 pointed out there is the possibility of these girls having been very precocious and participated in luring a less than stellar example of intelligence into a sexual relationship. Yes he should have had better judgement and better moral character but when tempted it is sometimes really difficult to maintain the straight and narrow. Also some young women of 14 look much older. I recall a young woman (can't recall her name) who stared in a number of porn films by using false ID when she was only 14. She managed to fool people who should be experts at determining age. So we should not be too hasty to condemn without knowing the whole story.

SSS Thrill it really kind of depends upon your religion and country of origin. In some cultures 15 is almost considered 'over the hill' and unmarriagable. LOL Now don't take this the wrong way because I certainly do not approve of young people (male or female) engaging in dangerous unrestrained sexual behavior. As a society we have sort of collectively agreed that 18 is the permissable age of consent. Truth be known many 18 to 25 year olds are still not fully mature enough emotionally to be making such decisions but that happens to be our benchmark so we go with it.

When I was a freshman in high school there was a raving beauty in our class and she had a 'boyfriend' who was 30ish. He had been seeing her since she was only 14. Technically he was guilty of statutory rape, child abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. However this 'delinquent' girl was a memeber of the National Honor Society and graduated in the top 10% of her class. Her 'boyfriend' gave her a brand new pink Thunderbird convertable for her graduation present. When she finished her college education which I understand that he paid for and earning her MBA he set her up in business. They never married because he already was you see but today she is worth several million dollars, is happily married, and has a daughter who is just as beautiful as she is.

My point is that mental and emotional maturity can occur at almost any age. I have known a few very young kids who are more mature than their parents and have to look after them when they are drunk or strung out. They have seen more 'life' in their few years than most adults so I simply say don't be too hasty to be judgemental. Each of us should have the right to make our own choices in life even when our society interferes with that.
