Investigators with the Florida Attorney General's Cyber Crime Unit said 64-year-old Thomas Winters, of DeBary, thought he was chatting online with a parent while that person's 7-year-old daughter watched over a webcam.

"Winters exposed himself over a webcam and solicited the 'parent' of the child to engage in similar sexual activities with the 'child,'" officials with the Attorney General's Office said.

Detectives said Winters is a retired Cooper City officer.

we should hang the creeps who instigated this crime

offer treatment to the perptrators - they may not know what they are doing whereas the instigators certainly do

it's hard to tell who is sicker - the instigators or the perpetrators

Mark: what planet are you from? Have you ever taken care of a sex offender? As an RN I have worked with sex offenders in psychiatry and in the prison system. The majority of them cannot be "treated". There is no know effective treatment for a pedophile.

We will lock people up forever for a drug offense but we can't keep people like him in jail. And does anyone REALLY think that this is his first "walk on the wildside".. I don't think so. He did not just up and suddenly develop a thing for children. I guarantee you that this is not new behavior for him. He just got caught this time.

true. i worked as a state correctional office for several years. a lot of that time was spent at a sex offender camp. after listening to them talk for a couple of years. i was ready to be transferred or resign......all they lived for was getting out and satisfying their sick desires.......i am no longer a guard.....md

As I see it.. Child predators & child abusers.. proven 110% guilty.. 1 appeal within 1-2 weeks.. upheld guilty.. 24 hours later.. death penalty..

They should not be allowed to eat, live, or breathe.. nor should our tax dollars be wasted on them any longer than it takes to do the legal actions against them..I do not care if they 'get theirs' in prison or not..

TDK: I'm from Earth. You may have heard of it. CoH violation #1. You may want to read Rick Hanson, he has a new non-fiction piece out on empathy. He speaks to the RN.

I've, unfortunately, put plenty of cops, attorneys, doctors and businesspeople in prison. You should hear them at deposition. They talk. More than you'd think. Mostly for perjury or fraud, whichever you want to call it. It's difficult to prove, but most people lie. For a multitude of reasons. People of authority have the strongest motive to lie: they have the most to lose. Some people associate nothing to lose with lying or mischief. A lie is told to protect oneself's interest. The most interesting people have the most things. Why would someone lie to protect something they do not have? And how complicated could a lie be for something innocuous?

The point is that a child predator who is caught by a person acting like a child predator can be vindicated by extracting the behaviors of the pursuer that were projected upon the accused! This is not complicated, just bring the idea forward in your consciousness.

What happened to Heath Ledger? Did he become his role?

Par4TheCourse - What do you think about eugenics? Is empathy or lack thereof being bred out? Would you choose a mate who was sympathetic to an ill or invalid, lonely or innocuous character? Is this forum real. If I virtually punched you, would the real equivalant be cutting me off in traffic? Likewise, if an older and perceived respectable member of your community, a police officer, retired, is accused - is he guilty of anything other than masturbating to an image that he thought real? Is the argument of the accuser going to be appropriate? Did a profiler, like myself, find a weak spot and exploit it beyond the reasonable and expected behaviors of a person otherwise not guilty and can you keep an open mind long enough to examine the evidence without bias? If not, think about what has happened to you in your lifetime to cause that natural shift from empathy to a need of vindication.

Is anything real? Your brain, by way of your mind, determines though judgement your reality. If you are knowingly participating in a virtual escapade - you are escaping into a virtual world that by and through your mind becomes real. What is the harm in playing a video game that rewards murder as opposed to a man seeking a mate on Cupid? If Cupid offers sex online does that mean then the virtual progammer must not participate? Or that the progam must be 18 years old?

What is different in this case as opposed to watching Jenna Jameson get married? She is a porn star. She ages, she changes. Her desires, needs and reality change over her lifetime. So. If she becomes an image on someone's computer and they can have vitual intercourse, is there a crime and what violation has occured? What if it is for someone's own private viewing. Can someone take an image, run it through Photoshop 5 and have virtual sex at home with anything? Or show that creation to someone across the internet and enjoy it?

So, as you see it, is there a simple answer? Ever driven over the speed limit when you are in a hurry and heard that little voice tell you, "it's okay." You could have killed someone. This guy was pleasuring himself to an image on the TV. Alone. The only ones with him were cops and consultants and programmers and ma bell and now, you and I. Soon, lawyers, judges, jurymen and news hounds will be in his virtual room, alone. Because that's how the system works.

The idea of the prisoner using language that visibly upsets a guard is balance. The prisoner is exercising his right to disturb, thereby not being alone or to the greatest degree of capture, ostracization. This method is taught to soldiers. Watch a simple version being manifested on reruns of Hogan's Heroes. Maddad, you were/are sick being around sick people. An RN should know that first off, but self-analysis is a slippery slope. Objectivity of oneself is void.

To a degree, if you sat on this jury, if it goes to trial, you would require counseling and treatment because of the subject manner. You would come out affected. The affect is permanent. The land speed record does not fall simply because no one is attaining it simultaneously, we benchmark it for a reason. Therefore, any memory you have becomes a part of your consciousness and thereby becomes you. This thought enables you to understand that speeding won't get you near the land speed record. So slow down. There is no hurry. We've all been there, here before.

I have no sympathy or add any value towards a person who is a child predator or murderer.. I could so easily inject or pull the lever, or even pull a chord on a guillotine to see them leave this world and rot in some hole some place. I could so easily drop them from a plane and without a parachute from 10,000 feet watch them plummet into the deep sea.. There is nothing lower than a person who would hurt a child.

I sat on a jury several times in my life.. and I hope to sit on some more..one case had to deal with a supposed predator.. it had come out in trial that the kid was lying because the mother got the 5 year old to lie... but as I mentioned in my post above.. 110% proof.. 60+ years I have seen much.. I saw a lot in Nam.. but the worse of the worse is a predator of children.. IF the country was serious about protecting children.. then it would be doing more in the law to make sure these s.o.bs. never see the light of day, or breathe air...

I think you protest too much.

And don't talk to me about sympathy. You don't know anything about me as a nurse.

Anyone that sympathizers with a Child Predator has no value to me.. they continue through their mamby-pamby lives allow people to live that shouldn't be.. Child predators are nothing but slithering animals.. and need to be stomped out.

you failed to address the issues. i read comment on your historical bias. no one knows if the cop is guilty, yet. regardless of the issues, I read plenty into your professional habits based upon your preferences and the choice of words. Just as you did with a news story that may or may not be accurate despite the source.

beyond sympathy, you have yet to identify your reasonings behind your/our lack of privacy or choice of what to do with our own work product.
