LAKELAND, Fla. - The Lakeland Fire Department presented fourth-grader Annabelle with the Fire and Life Safety Award after she alerted her family to the smell of smoke in their home, allowing them to safely escape a fire.
Fourth grade teacher Katrina Lynn said her student, Annabelle, awoke to a strange smell, went to the kitchen and saw the stove was on fire. Annabelle grabbed her little brother and ran to Grandpa's house. She woke up Grandpa and told him the house was on fire, called
9-1-1 and got a fire extinguisher.
After LFD confirmed the story, they presented Annabelle Sprague with the award and a Lakeland Fire Department T-shirt for her act of
bravery, following her home escape plan, and alerting her family to the fire.
