MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A five-year veteran of the Nassau County police force has been arrested and charged for allegedly forcing a woman to grope him during a traffic stop. Garrett Mannerz, 34, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to bribe receiving, official misconduct and sexual abuse. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors said after Mannerz administered a field sobriety test on the driver, he ordered one of the passengers out of the car, commented on her attire and asked for her telephone number.

Mannerz then allegedly told the woman that if she “did something for him” he would allow the driver to leave without receiving a summons or being charged. Prosecutors said he then grabbed the woman’s wrist and forced her to touch him sexually.

Two hours after letting the women go, Mannerz began a series of sexually suggestive telephone calls to the passenger he grabbed, prosecutors said.

As disturbing as this is, I can't help thinking about how I (and presumably a good percentage of guys) would react in this situation. Not that I drive around drunk a lot, but it doesn't take much to reach the legal limit - which for some people impairs their driving but for others has virtually no impact on their driving because they simply have a higher tolerance. DUIs are so expensive and inconvenient, that if a woman police officer pulled me over for, say a broken tail light, and then starts talking about sobriety testing, when I know that I just had a couple beers - but then says if you fondle my naughty bits over my clothes I will let you go - I would take her up on that in a second, even if she was ugly. If she started calling me afterwards I would just tell her that I have recorded the call, and if she ever calls my phone again it will go public. I guess that's the difference between men and women.

The more DUIs an officer gets, the quicker they get promoted and salary raises. Why wouldn't they be harassing people?
The last time I was pulled over (I had around 4 beers a few house prior) I was given the whole shabam. From him waving his magical pen back and forth, having me walk the line and standing on one foot while counting all the while on a slopped culvert for water. He was ready to take me in but I demanded a breathalyzer and passed with flying colors. I was given a warning for no license plate lights, which were (conveniently for him) unplugged.

I'm not disputing that I would be outraged, but would you have a problem doing it yourself if it got you out of a DUI? I wouldn't feel dirty, used, or need to tell my wife or girlfriend about it at all. I would just be happy to not have to deal with a DUI. This guy and any other cop that would stoop to this is still a total douche though.

My favorite way to get out of a DUI is to not drive drunk.

Well if he is found guilty and convicted there will be plenty of that groping for him.

Randi is a girl

There really doesn't seem to be proof of this. He pulled them over for a sobriety test so they may have been driving erratically and he could have just been mean to them so they are making allegations against him because they're mad. If there is a record of calls from him to the girls then I could say he did it but there is usually a bias when it comes to sexual assault claims. People are more likely to believe a woman's claims than a man's.

Hopefully he had a camera in his patrol car to prove his innocence if that is the case.
