In Idaho, jails in Ada and Twin Falls counties have also ended traditional inmate visits.

Authorities have said the biggest advantages are increased flexibility for visitors and improved efficiencies at the jails, where deputies will no longer need to take the time to remove inmates from cell blocks and screen visitors.

Many in jails (as opposed to prisons) are awaiting trial and are guilty of anything. Also, even for those guilty as charged, jails house those guilty of minor crimes. Person to person contacts are important to the rehabilitation process and family contacts will lead to support after the inmate is released. Too bad deputies and guards actually have to work for a living.

Well if many are not guilty of anything, then they have a lot of positive people to have face to face contact with right there in jail. Sounds like they will be just fine.

What the heck. Prisoners are not human right? This is another way of dehumanizing an individual.

Kind of like murder, rape, and abuse. I get it.

I guess everyone is in jail for murder, rape and abuse right? Check out the stats first.

addicting children to drugs, risky behavior such as driving drunk, terroristic threatening, the list can go on and on, but I covered the most heinous of the group, that much is true. Is it any less personal if they rob your place and you come home to it? Does it make you feel safe?

At least you get it though. Not all of them are murderers, rapists, abusers, and the like, just like many of them are not innocent. As a matter of fact, The Innocence Project cites a study by Seton Hall's D. Michael Risinger that puts the percentage of innocents in prison at 3 to 5 percent. That is a horrible statistic, but it also takes into account those that have plead guilty or have confessed to crimes they did not commit for lesser sentences.

It is too bad, if people would quit breaking the law..then...no jails.

Do not do the crime if you cannot do the time.

It also cuts down on the drugs that get into the jail.

You can be in jail and innocent of any crime. We do have a policy here of innocent until proven guilty. Also remember most people in jail or prison get out, in jails usually in less than a year.

No bail? Many who are being held in jail have no money for bail. If you are poor, you remain in jail. If you have cash, you can make bail.

If no one broke a law tomorrow, the day after drinking a soda would carry 5 years.

Most of those people are scared and were arrested for some minor thing like jay walking and they do need human contact. Most correction officers are compassionate in doing their jobs. I know several and one of my nephews just started a job as a corrections officer while training for the Sheriffs Department and getting his law degree.

I believe it's just an excuse to cut back on employees, not to save the state money but because a lot of jails are being turned over to privately run corporations. Soon you will see the Corp. listed on Wall Street, to make even more $$$$$$ for the investors.

Samen, did anyone tell you where your friends moved to? Go to the last MPL location and click at the top or follow the maze. Hope to see you later?

What you say in Post #4.1 is all true. However, there are some arrest warrants that carrry no bail.

In Idaho there are no county jails run by corp....why? Because the state constitution requires the Sheriff of the county to maintain the jail.

Prisons are different.

The only problem I personally have with the idea is that this will put added punishment to innocent family members of the one behind bars, they will suffer even more. Like mothers, spouses and children. They usually still have love for them even though their in trouble with the law and they may have a need to see them face to face.

Well the prison could also allow Skype and then the families could still meet face to face without contact.

My understanding is that you don't even want a few minutes in the hole when you are in prison.
