I came across this old picture this weekend. Thought that the story behind it might bring and smile and a break today.
This cute little guy was not born with any problems that would require leg braces. His grandpa was the only adult man in his life at the time and spent hours playing with him and teaching him to walk. The problems developed from walking too early and resulted in bowed legs. He wore them during waking hours as a toddler. Grandma would take him to Kmart every-time she went, pretty much. Shoppers there and in other places would come up and just hand him dimes...back then it seems the "March of Dimes" was a bit more visible. Grandma would just smile and say "thank you", maybe it was easier than a long explanation that he didn't have polio or any other disease.....the dimes were everywhere! His mom would get angry about it, but grandma just kept bringing him home richer than he left.
Eventually the braces came off and maddad was dime-less forever...LOL
(I have given an annual gift to the March of Dimes most every year as an adult....still feel like I stole from them somehow..lol)
Have a great day! (and don't send any dimes!)
